GS1 standards are recognized around the World for helping companies reduce costs through improvements in their processes and supply chains, facilitating the choice of solutions and equipment from different manufacturers, commercialization in global markets, among other gains. Thus, the courses are essential to understand how to get the best benefits from GS1 standardization, responsible for assigning Barcodes, QR Codes or Datamatrix, in addition to radio frequency identification (RFID).

As for the types of courses offered by GS1, Flavia Ponte said that they are currently being worked on under two brands, GS1 Brasil and Korde – the latter, a company created with the sole purpose of offering education to the market. The entire course schedule can be found at https://educa.gs1br.org/.

“The theme of the Brazilian Automation Association-GS1 Brazil revolves around the standards of the GS1 system”, explains Flavia. “That is, identification of commercial products; variable data management of products and logistic units; EPC/RFID, which addresses the importance of the standard in emerging technologies; traceability using GS1 system standards; online sales, including product registration; identification for the health sector; and the National Register of Products in practice – In Company”.

Korde, a GS1 initiative that works with themes related to automation, logistics, innovation and trends, has two more pillars: consultancy and data. Korde’s grid changes annually. “This year we had blockchain, innovation in packaging, labeling etc. In addition to the Harvard Manage Mentor Program. The partnership between GS1 Brazil and Harvard Business Publishing (HBP) offers the e-learning platform, which directly supports the development of leadership and competence management”, she says.

According to Flavia, each course has its own profile. And the technologies covered also depend on the course theme. “We always work with technologies for identifying, capturing and sharing product data. And it is worth noting that any company or professional can take the courses. Access can be done through the website https://educa.gs1br.org/”, she added, saying that the address serves to obtain up-to-date information about the course agenda and also to make registrations.

In addition, within GS1 there is the Innovation and Technology Center (CIT), which has equipment for automating logistical processes for retail stores, e-commerce and drug traceability, which work with solutions supported by technologies and standards such as the code of bars, GS1 DataMatrix, GS1 DataBar, EPC/RFID among other technologies for capturing, identifying and sharing information. “Today we have the experience of physical visits in São Paulo and Brasília, in addition to the virtual tour”.

Face-to-face visits are again being carried out with groups of up to five people, after the period of restrictions caused by the pandemic. “We also have the option of visits monitored by the virtual CIT. Applications for both models can be made at the link: https://www.gs1br.org/educacao-e-eventos/cit”.
